It’s the most exciting time of the year! College move-in is approaching quickly and you are probably thinking about what you may need for your new place! With many people living on their own for the first time, it can be hard to keep track of all that you will need in your new home.

We decided that we could help compile a list with easy items you will need for each room of your apartment. Some of these things are more expensive than others, but all of them would be beneficial to bring with you.

Before we get started with the room-by-room breakdown, we wanted to offer some ideas of where to look for certain items to keep the price closer to a college student budget! Target and Walmart have had amazing sales and cheaper items for apartments. Here, you can get super cheap dishware for your new kitchen. Along with the dishware, you can find cheap towels, storage containers, and much more.

Goodwill and thrift stores are great places to look for items such as lamps, picture frames, art, mirrors, and so much more! Even though these items are second-hand, you can typically clean them up and make them look good as new.

Kitchen

The kitchen is where all the magic happens…FOOD! Here, you’ll need a lot of things to help prepare your meals. Some items that you should bring include pots/pans, a trash can, trash bags, dishes, utensils, freezer bags, dish soap, dish towels, napkins, paper towels, food containers, and a toaster.

Living Room

The living room is where you’ll want to relax and hang out with friends. Often, people store other essentials in the closet here! Some things that’ll help to keep your place clean include a vacuum, lightbulbs, rugs, a mop, throw pillows, a boot tray, tools, a first aid kit, a broom, a trash can, and cleaning supplies.

Bedroom

Depending on if you are sharing a room or if you got your own room, there are different things to bring for your space! Some items that will help your room feel cozy include sheets, hangars, a comforter, tissues, pillows, a desk lamp, curtains, a fan, desk supplies, a rug, and a laundry basket.

Bathroom

You’ll want to try and keep your bathroom clean. No one wants to bathe in a dirty bathroom. Some essential items for your bathroom include a bathmat, towels, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a plunger, toilet paper, a loofah, tissues, toilet paper, and a shower curtain.

Cleaning Essentials:

As college students, there is a pretty good chance that we are going to make a mess. It is highly recommended to bring cleaning supplies because having them hands on will make you more likely to clean! Some great products/items to grab are disinfectant wipes, spray cleaner, glass cleaner, a toilet brush, toilet cleaner, and sponges!

As the excitement builds, so does the list of needs for your new place. Hopefully, organizing your list of items and maybe even splitting it with your roommate/roommates can help you successfully get everything you may need for your new place. We are so excited to have you as our resident!
