School is back! Finally, time to explore your new home! Whether it’s your first or fifth year, there is always something new to see in your college town. Take some time with friends to explore your new surroundings and see what makes it unique.

Food is the best part about living in a new place! You can try many new restaurants and find some new favorites. Often, asking locals is the best bet. They are more familiar with local cuisine and can make great recommendations. Yelp is another great resource for restaurants. You can read reviews, see pictures, and look at menus without leaving home.

Simply walking around town will familiarize you with local hotspots. You will quickly learn more about local shopping, eateries, and other local businesses. Taking a couple of days to get to know the lay of the land will help you tremendously.

Making money is a must, so pick up a new job while you are here. Working is a great way to meet new people. New friends can lead to new places and events that you otherwise would never have known about. Not only is it a great way to make money, its also a great way to socialize!

Local newspapers and articles can unveil more details about your new area. Fun events and concerts are usually advertised in the news giving you fun ideas to check out in by yourself or with friends. In college towns, there are always free events – you just have to know where to look.

Don’t have a car at school? Get familiar with public transportation. While a lot of people dislike public transportation, it can be a lifesaver, and its more affordable than ride services.  Bus routes can be a bit tricky, but you can typically check an app to see where buses are and learn the routes. This can help you to get to class or just get out of town for the day.

With a somewhat return to normalcy, there is a lot to be excited about. Take the time to get to know your college town and you’ll end up feeling like college is just a home away from home.
